OUR ENVIRONMENT

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL PLEDGE

We promise to keep our environmental efforts pure and simple. Just like our water.

We believe that, as suppliers of water, we have the responsibility of recycling the bottles, the caps and the labels. This is the basis of our recycling pledge. You can hold us accountable to this, and we promise 100% honesty in our recycling efforts.

For this reason, we’ve chosen a 100% recyclable PET bottle for our water, and we’re making it easy for you to recycle these bottles, so you can feel good about buying our products.

We follow recycling regulations to the letter to make sure that all components that we use can be recycled easily by all South Africa’s recycling companies and are awaiting certification from extraPET, one of the leading recycling companies in Cape Town.

RECYCLING INITIATIVE

At Table Mountain Water, our commitment to recycling underlies everything we do. One of our cornerstones is that we gladly offer the service of collecting all our used Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottles from our clients. As we deliver new stock we will then collect and bring the PET bottles to a certified recycling drop off facility where they will be recycled correctly. This ensures that none of our PET ends up in the wrong place and helps us keep our recycling circle 100% complete. We are supplying only within the greater Cape Town and because of this, it allows us to keep our carbon footprint extremely low. All monies received from this recycling initiative in turn flows through to our other community service projects.

WHY PET BOTTLES?

We use PET because of its superior strength, durability and lightweight qualities. It is widely recycled and recognised in South Africa, therefore, allowing us to make a positive contribution to our eco-conscious circular economy. Plastic is among us and will be for the foreseeable future so we believe that if our mentality on the volubility of plastic changes, less will end up in our oceans and landfills.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • PET currently has a 62% recycle rate in South Africa. This % is ever increasing because of our highly established PET recycling companies spread across the country, of which there are three excellent certified facilities in the Mother City.

  • A single-serve PET bottle (0.5 litre) is strong enough to hold 50 times its weight in water.

  • PET plastic bottles use less energy, generate less solid waste and create significantly fewer greenhouse gases than aluminium cans.

  • According to the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States, many mixed plastic and paper cartons do not get recycled, contributing to the 78 million tons of packaging waste in landfills, as of 2015 – of course by now this figure has increased dramatically. Also, boxed water and juices often come with plastic straws and have plastic liners. In contrast, water bottles made from PET are 100% recyclable

  • The Food and Drug Administration ( FDA) in the United States is one of the world’s leading authorities tasked with protecting and promoting public health. PET has been approved by the FDA for food and beverage packaging meaning it is healthy to be reused and refilled as it does not contain Bisphenol A (BPA) like other plastics. BPA is an industrial chemical primarily used in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastics.

  • 2,5 times more fossil fuels go into the manufacturing of glass bottles compared to PET bottles. A glass bottle needs to be refilled/reused over 10 times to compete with the carbon footprint of 1 single use PET bottle, excluding the carbon footprint involved in transport.

  • PET is  the lightest weight packaging on the market. Weighing 10 times less than glass.

COMMUNITY PROJECT

Table Mountain Water (TMW) is 100% Capetonian! We care about making a difference right on our doorstep by supporting our community through our PET Community Service Projects.

The founders of TMW are proud Hout Bay locals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the youth of their community. For our first project, we have therefore decided to sponsor Hout Bay United Football Club providing the players and staff with complimentary mineral-rich drinking water and water bottles.

We will also be supplying HBUFC with our water to sell at all of their events or matches and all profits made will go back into the HBUFC to help develop the Club and give back to those in need.

As our company grows, it is our goal that Table Mountain Water will sponsor more schools and other exciting initiatives in the Mother City – we are determined to make a difference, no matter how small, to the people of our community!
